Planescape: Torment is a role-playing video game developed by Black Isle Studios. Released on December 12, 1999, the game takes place in locations from the multiverse of Planescape, a Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting. Planescape is primarily story-driven, with combat not being prominently featured. The protagonist, known as The Nameless One, is a man who is immortal, but with the cost of him forgetting everything if killed. The game focuses on his journey through the city of Sigil and other planes to reclaim his memories of these previous lives, and to discover why he was made immortal in the first place. Several characters in the game may join The Nameless One on his journey; most of these characters have encountered him in the past or have been influenced by his actions in some way.

One of my favorite parts of the game is exploring the world. Every time I saw a character or container, I would interact with it to see if I would get anything be it an item or lore about the game. The characters you interact with are intriguing as well. The first people you meet are a floating skull, an old dying man, and a Tiefling working on corpses, this pretty much tells you the kind of characters you will meet in this game. Talking to people can also get you some quests that can get you some helpful items or money. Another note while talking about characters is the fact that you will meet people who will join your party, like the previously mentioned floating skull. The more people in your party, the easier it will be to fight enemies. I haven’t gotten too far so I only was able to get one other member, but after getting him it made fighting way easier.

The game-play of Planescape takes multiple elements from D&D like abilities, races, and classes. You set up your stats the same a D&D and while in combat you can get both critical hits and misses. You also have specific classes like fighter, warrior, wizard, etc. that you can play as depending on your stats. When you fight in the game the only thing you need to focus on is the weapon you are using and who every member of your group is fighting. The main thing you will be doing in Planescape however, is talking to people and doing quests.
