What I look for in Games

When I play games I have a specific system on if I will enjoy a game. There are three guidelines I look for they are as followed game-play, story, graphics. A game needs to meet two of the three things to be enjoyable for me. Out of the three the two I value the most are game-play and story. This is because video games graphic wise can and will be outdated after a certain period of time, however game-play and story if done correctly can transcend time.

Types of Game I Play

I play a multitude of genres. Adventure and action-adventure games are the genres I play the most out of most other genre. These genres tend to have stories that are fun to experience, and in the case for action-adventure games fun combat. I play causal games to sit back and relax when I don’t feel like putting a lot of time into a game. Fighting games are usually reserved for local play.
I enjoy playing RPGs depending on what kind of systems it employs. Does it have a morality system, do your choices matter, is the character you play a full fleshed character, or do you have a blank slate to work with. With RPGs you have a multitude of types of games to choose.
Turn-based strategy games are one of my favorite types of games. These games tend to have more strategy involved when playing and help me when I want to stimulate my brain. Using the Civilization franchise as an example, you must micromanage everything you do meanwhile you also have to pay attention to the other players to see what they are doing, are they just minding their own business, or are they planning to attack another player. All these factors make these games fun and they can help pass the time rather quickly.
FPSs are a genre that I have a love hate relationship with. On one hand most have great controls and handling, and high-speed game-play. However, over the years with annual franchises like Call of Duty the genre is over-flooded with very similar looking games. There are the FPSs that are a breath of fresh air, those being games like Overwatch and Team Fortress 2. Both games have stylized visuals which are fun to look at when you play.
The genres I tend to stay away from are Sports, racing, Art, esports, MMOs, MMORPGs, and social games. The reasons I avoid the first two, sports and racing, is from a lack of interest in both. I have only dabbled in art games so I can’t really judge the genre that well. Same with Esports since I just really got into it. I have enjoyed most of the MMOs and MMORPGs that I played, but the time commitment keeps me from returning to them
